Day 1 - Friday Departure
from Bellingham, WA Tthe Alaska State Ferry M/V Columbia. Cabin
included with full bath and window. The M/V Columbia amenities
include dining room, cafeteria, cocktail lounge.
Day 2 - Saturday At Sea Naturalist from the US
Forest Service provides presentations throughout the voyage
describing marine wildlife, birds, local lore and history.
Day 3 - Ketchikan - Petersburg - Wrangell Time
in port will vary, but usually enough time for a brisk walk or taxi
to Creek Street in Ketchikan. Ketchikan is known for one of the
largest totem parks in SE Alaska.
Wrangell -Stop Over Sunday,
Monday Accommodations within walking distance of shops, library,
museum, churches, and Petroglyph Beach. Restaurant onsite and
shuttle service from the Ferry Terminal provided.
Day 4 - BEARS Anan Bear & Wildlife Observatory You
will begin this adventure with a 1-hr jet boat ride on the beautiful
Stikine River to Anan Bay. Your guide will lead you by hiking trail
to the observatory platform (aprox 1 mile) and the creek where you
will see both brown and black bears fishing in the river. Up-close
is the only way to describe this unique once-in-a-life-time
experience. Bring a lunch and a camera!
Day 5
- Icebergs The Stikine River & Glacier Trip. Explore the
tributaries of the Stikine River. The river is fed by over 100
glaciers and is one of the most ecologically diverse rivers in
Alaska. Your guide will navigate through a maze of topaz blue
icebergs to Chief Shakes Lake. See solid granite cliffs and
waterfalls which make this area prime habitat for bear, moose,
eagles, wolves and deer.
Day 6 - Juneau
Board the Alaska State Ferry for an outstanding cruise through the
Wrangell Narrows. The ferry can make up to 60 course changes in an
hour to navigate through these narrow channels to the capital city
of Juneau. Accommodations include shuttle service from the ferry
terminal and a deluxe suite B&B with a full course breakfast.
Day 7 - Glacier Bay National Park Air taxi
from Juneau to Gustavus, a fascinating half-hour flight over
snow-capped mountains and ice fields. Overnight lodging included
at the Glacier Bay Lodge.
Day 8 Glacier
Bay National Park Cruise Observe humpback and Orca whales,
stellar sea lions, and sea otters. See chunks of ice as "big as the
governor's mansion" peel off the glacier, sounding like fire
crackers, then shatter on impact with the bay's surface. This 8-hour
cruise with full view windows is often accompanied by a Park Service
Ranger/Cultural Interpreter. Lunch is included. Air taxi provided
back to Juneau after the cruise and downtown accommodations.
Day 9 - Juneau Mendenhall Glacier Lake
Paddle by Kayak 4-1/2 hour Trip One of the best Alaskan
wilderness experiences nestled just 20-minutes away from downtown
Juneau! This self-guided kayak package to Mendenhall Lake is great
if you want the gratification of being “out there” on your own.
Participants who are physically fit and have previously paddled
canoe or kayaks will enjoy this fully customizable self-guided
route. Paddle near icebergs, arctic tern nesting cliffs, giant
waterfalls, and enjoy incredible views of Mendenhall Glacier from
your kayak! Alternative to Kayaking if you are not a Kayaking
fan you can choose the Mendenhall Canoe Adventure, The Glacier Float
Trip, Gold Mining & Panning Adventure, or Whale Watching & Salmon
Bake.
Day 10 - Sitka Travel on the
Alaska State Fast Ferry to Sitka, Alaska. Accommodations
included downtown - close to the Russian Church, shopping and the
small boat harbor.
Day 11 Explore Sitka
with Ocean Raft Adventures 4-Hour Tour featuring - Volcano
exploration by raft and 4X4 Yamaha Rhino OHVs.This tour begins with a thrilling boat
ride aboard the Adventure Raft 1.This high speed craft gets you out
into nature quickly so you can explore more in less time. The
volcanic coastline of Kruzof Island makes for excellent photographic
opportunities and is home to a variety of species of wildlife. It is
not uncommon to spot whales, sea otters, Stellar sea lions and sea
birds as well as brown bears and Sitka black tail deer from the
raft.When you arrive at Kruzof Island, your guides and the Yamaha
Rhino OHVs will be ready to take you up to the top of a volcanic
crater. The trail runs around the top of the crater providing awe
inspiring views in several directions. There is also a small lake in
the center of the crater. This is the perfect place to stop and
enjoy refreshments while taking in the magnificent vistas. After
this it is back down to meet the raft for the trip back to Sitka.
Day 12 M/V Columbia Return Trip
Re-board the M/V Columbia ferry for the return passage to
Bellingham.
Day 13 - At Sea. Ports of Call:
Petersburg - Wrangell - Ketchikan
Day 14
- Arrive Bellingham (Seattle) 8:00AM Friday morning. Tour
Concludes.
